First Day of School – Victoria’s in 1st Grade!!!

It is so hard to believe that Victoria is in 1st grade.  Today was her first day at her new school, St. Louise de Marillac.  She was so excited that she jumped out of bed around 6am.  She had her bookbag all ready to go and helped me pack her lunch.  Getting there was a bit of an adventure, though.  We knew that she was supposed to ride the bus but we were never told a time or a bus stop.  At one point the school secretary told me that the bus driver would call me but he usually picked kids up at their homes if they were the only ones in the neigborhood.  Since the bus driver never called, I called the school on Friday.  Unfortunately, I never heard back from the school.  We figured that the bus would probably come sometime between 7:30 and 7:45 so we waited outside on the front porch.  Needless to say, the bus never came (so we thought) so Gabe drove her to school.  Victoria jumped out of the car and marched right into school.  Later that day, I went to school to pay the tuition.  I stopped by the office and found out the stop is supposed to be up the street from us.  The secretary called Victoria down to tell her I was there to get her but Victoria begged me to ride the bus home.  She thought the bus would be some great experience.  So, I left the school.  On my way out I ran into the bus driver.  It is a new driver this year and she doesn’t want to break any of the rules so she won’t pick Victoria up at the house. She saw us standing on the porch this morning but couldn’t stop.  Oh well. Now we know where the stop is and tomorrow I will make sure she is there.  Victoria did love riding the bus home.  She sat by another 1st grader.  She jumped into the car and told me at a very rapid pace how wonderful her day was.  She told us the funniest thing.  “We sat around all day talking about what we could do”.  Gabe thought that this seemed like perfect training for her to be in management someday.  It is so awesome to know that she loved school and is excited to go back tomorrow.  That is such a relief since everything has really been crazy here lately with a different house, new school and new mode of transportation.  It all makes me a little teary-eyed to see my baby girl being so independent.  Gabe captured some video and I got a few pictures of the big day!!!
